6th Annual Bike ‘n Blade
By Phil Reed

The TBSSB Bike ‘n Blade on Saturday, October 23rd, was just perfect! And perfect means great weather, a great group of bikers and skaters, a fabulous lunch, and a perfect setting for après Bike ‘n Blade at Ozona Blue Grilling Co. You should have been there. You missed a great time!

Everyone thought it was a wonderful event and everyone means 51 hardy souls this time, the largest group ever to attend. Although once again, just like last year, most TBSSBers were on bikes, there were about eight of us skaters chugging along with the bikers! And the bladers sometimes led the pack, but not for very long.

This time we had several bikers join the group who are on the Club’s European Bike ‘n Barge trip next fall. They’re riding several different courses frequently to get in shape for their wonderful trip next year.

Our lunch in Tarpon Springs at our favorite Greek restaurant, Mr. Souvlaki, was a big hit – especially with the restaurant owner & employees. With 50 hungry and thirsty exercisers, the wait staff was very happy to see us, and the food was delicious and very plentiful. No complaints, except maybe there was too much food to eat on each plate – with having to skate or bike the 7.5 miles back. LOL.

We started and ended the biking ‘n skating in Ozona near the Homeport Marina. There we adjourned to the Ozona Blue Bar and had some liquid libations all on your Club’s ticket. Beer, house wine, and sodas were enjoyed by all. As a social event for our ski club, we were all very satisfied TBSSBers.

Next time, come on out and join us. It’s a great way to get in shape for skiing/boarding. It’s also a great way to meet old and new friends again during the offseason while we’re anxiously anticipating the start of the new skiing/boarding season for the Tampa Bay Snow Skiers & Boarders!
