Trip Highlights

Alan and Rosanne invite you to Mt Bachelor, "Someplace Different", for a brand new experience this year. The Florida Ski Council has some great activities this year to include group tubing, a group dinner and group lunch on the mountain along with a fantastic “Night at the Museum” dinner and dance.

Mt Bachelor The club went to Mt Bachelor in 2013 and 2014. We did not go last year because we were anticipating the FSC trip with all of the FSC parties and activities. We’re staying right in downtown Bend so the shops, restaurants, micro-breweries, and other attractions will be very convenient. The end of February is a great time to be skiing Mt. Bachelor.

This mountain has 300 days of sunshine per year, so we can expect some beautiful ski days. Mt Bachelor is a great place for expert skiers and riders to get that burn, plus it’s also a fantastic place to learn a snow sport or take the family for an exciting day out. There’s a fabulous program for the beginner skier or snowboarder. Carrousel, the free beginners lift, offers an easy ride up and a gentle slope down. Plus, there’s plenty of other acreage on the mountain that’s rated for beginners. In addition to great skiing and riding, Alan and Rosanne are planning some fun and tasty get-togethers, including a welcome reception, Après ski happy hours, and a farewell dinner along with the planned FSC activities.

Join Alan and Rosanne for a week of great fun at Someplace Different.

Doubletree by Hilton Doubletree logo We’re staying at the comfortable Doubletree by Hilton, conveniently located in beautiful historic downtown Bend, Oregon. The view of the 4 mountains fully covered in snow, is spectacular and something to behold. Upon arrival, we will have a welcome reception featuring local microbrews, wine and appetizers. Daily full hot breakfast buffet is included. Rooms are available with 2 Queens or 1 King bed. A 1-bedroom suite is also available. The Doubletree has a fitness center and an indoor pool and hot tub.

Doubletree Lobby Other amenities include a flat screen TV, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker and wireless Internet in each room. Best of all, the Doubletree sits at only 3600 feet elevation. Ski the summit, and then sleep comfortably at a low altitude. Included will be complimentary daily transportation just for us. Two shuttles to Mt Bachelor Ski Resort in the morning and two returning to the hotel in the afternoon. Since we’ll be right in Bend, we expect several travelers will rise to the challenge and complete the ‘Ale Trail’. See more details and learn how to get a “Silipint”, made especially for beer drinkers on the go.

Oh, and yes, there’s an app for exploring the ‘Ale Trail’ in Bend. More about the Doubletree

The Mountain

Mountain Stands AloneIf you’ve never skied down the sides of a volcano (not to worry; the last eruption was over 8000 years ago), or if you did last season and now know how beautiful it is, you should join Alan and Rosanne on this wonderful trip, Someplace Different. You can ski or ride 360 degrees off the summit in any direction; take enchanting runs through the trees, ski the wide open beautiful bowls, or cruise the groomers. Mt Bachelor has it all in abundance.

Mt. Bachelor Ski PowderThis mountain has more snow than most in the U.S., averaging almost 400 inches annually on 3,683 skiable acres, plus March and April are typically the best for skiing. Elevation at the base is only 6,300 and the summit is 9,065, so altitude is not an issue. The trails are fairly evenly mixed with 15% Novice, 25% Intermediate, 35% Advanced and 25% Expert, so there is plenty of terrain for every level of skier and boarder. There are 12 lifts including 10 high-speed quad lifts that run from 9 am to 4 pm. Check out Mt Bachelor’s video trail map where you can see videos that were uploaded or add your own. More mountain details.

Other Winter Recreation

Mt. Bachelor Sled Dogs

There are also many more fun things to do including tubing, snowshoeing and snowmobile tours, dog-sledding, and even golf at this time of year. The Nordic Center is renowned for its lengthy season and consistent snow conditions. Fifty-six kilometers of trails are available. Join Alan and Rosanne for a week of great fun at Someplace Different.

Other Non-skiing Activities

If you need a break from skiing or boarding you can take classes in Salsa Dancing, Sushi Rolling or take a tour of the Lava Tube Cave or the Deschutes Brewery. Take advantage of all the photo-ops with the area’s amazing scenery.
