TBSSB WINS FLORIDA SKI COUNCIL NASTAR RACE AT SNOWMASS
The date was January 20, 2009. It was
a cold and blustery morning for the Florida Ski Council NASTAR race for the
coveted "FSC Race Cup." The gauntlet had been thrown down by the Gator Club
(Palm Beaches), a club that had previously won the cup four years in a row.
They vowed to "take back the trophy" by beating the Tampa Bay Snow Skiers
and Boarders at Snowmass after losing the cup in 2008 at Lake Tahoe. (See
the write up this page.) The challenge was on! |

Lake Tahoe, Florida Ski Council
I once heard it said that a ski club can’t make a great ski trip, only great traveler’s can., Great Travelers were in abundance during the Florida Ski Council’s Lake Tahoe Trip; with 132 travelers, Tampa had the largest group from Florida. These great travelers certainly made the leaders, Lynn, Georgia and Jennifer’s, job much easier. We had a few injuries on the trip. Jim came preinjured, and was joined by the world famous cripple team of DJ, David and Terry (hope these guys are all doing better by now). We spent a day at Squaw Valley with the promise of a luxurious boat ride and dinner on the lake. Because of the size of our group the Tampa Bay Snow Skiers were placed on their own boat. The other clubs traveled on the three-story Tahoe Queen, while Tampa cruised on the SS Minnow. 80 people, plus Toufic, joined the crew, the wait staff and the three piece band for a three hour cruise. The food was super, the band was fun, and no one fell overboard. There were parties every night. Thursday was our “California Dreamin” Party and Patty won the prize for the “Best Flower Child”. Friday an adventurous group explored Kirkwood. Friday night we had our TBSS&B banquet to the theme of a “P Party” There were some very interesting and creative costumes. By the end of the week the mountain asked us to leave so they could restock the food and alcohol. One of the most memorable parts of the trip was the fact that Tampa won the Florida Cup’s. The Florida Cup’s is awarded to the club that wins the FSC race, all 16 clubs raced on the same course, Tampa has come in third for the last three years but not this one. Congratulations go out to all of our racers, but special thanks go to Sandy Benitez, Lynda Weaver, and Kathy Muehlburg for the women and Barry Nienegarten, Robert Gribble, and our race captain, Joe Calamari. This is Joe’s third year as Captain of the team; his record includes: two Third Place teams and now a First Place team. Angie Dort won fastest Woman skier in the 20 to 29 age group and Robert Gribble won the Fastest Man in the 60 to 69 group. Now the trick is to repeat this great trip again next year |

Frequent Traveler Program As many of you have heard, last season we started something new, and those who frequently travel with us each ski season will be the benefactors, as well as those who decide (after reading about this program) to take more than one trip with us each year. We started our very own frequent traveler program. One of its goals is to attract those travelers who may be considering either doing (if you're so lucky) your second and subsequent trip on your own or with another ski club. We really do want you to always stay with us, and it shows with this rewarding program for our Club members! It works like this: Each traveler who goes on more than one organized TBSSB trip (ski or non-ski) (led by a trip leader, with all monies paid in full to TBSSB) with the Tampa Bay Snow Skiers & Boarders each season (the Club's fiscal year) will qualify for a $35.00 cash reward for each trip after the first. This Club member must be in good standing to be able to collect this reward (meaning no monies owed to the Club). Each frequent traveler will have to submit within a two (2) month window (postmarked from May 1 - June 30) the approved TBSSB form to collect any reward. This Frequent Traveler Program form can be found by clicking here. The rules for this rewarding program are at the bottom of the form. Please follow them to the letter in order to qualify for your reward. And here's a "Thank You" for all of those skiers/boarders and non-skiers who have been our "Frequent Travelers" for this fantastic ski season with the Tampa Bay Snow Skiers & Boarders! We love to have you on several of our trips! So stay with us now and in the future!
